The Man of Steel is a six-issue limited series published by DC Comics on a bi-weekly basis from October until December of 1986. Written and drawn by John Byrne, the series reimagined the origin of Superman and provided a snapshot of the events that first inspired him to become the Man of Steel. This series represents the first official appearance of the Post-Crisis Superman and ignores the continuity presented in previous works.

- This series represents the first canonical appearance all main and supporting characters within the franchise following the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
- Issue number one shipped with an alternate variant cover. The variant cover featured a stylized logo design and is a close-up of Clark Kent pulling open his shirt, revealing the symbolic S-shield of his Superman costume underneath.
