Makluans are a fictional alien race featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. They first appeared in the form of Fin Fang Foom in Strange Tales #89 in October, 1961.

Description[]

Makluans are a race of ancient space dragons. They hail from the planet Kakaranthara in the Andromeda Galaxy. They stand more than 32 feet in height and can weigh in excess of 40,000 lbs. They are also known as Kakarantharaians. Despite looking like beasts of ancient lore, Makluans are actually highly intelligent and are a space-faring race.

The star drive of the Makluan ships utilized special crystals capable of many fantastic feats. These star drive crystals were recovered by Earth humans, and were ultimately used in the creation of the Mandarin's rings.

History[]

Several Makluans have come to Earth after the past several centuries. Stories from both European and Chinese lore depict stories of dragons, which are actually attributed to the Makluans. It is believed that Makluans may have been responsible for the destruction of Camelot in the sixth century AD. Another Makluan, Fin Fang Foom, was responsible for wreaking Havoc in China in the eighth century until he was rendered unconscious by a magical sleeping herb.

Fin Fang Foom was re-awakened in the modern era by a teenager named Chan Liuchow, who manipulated the dragon into devastating a regiment of communist soldiers responsible for the oppression of Chan's family. Afterward, Chan used the same magic herbs to put Fin Fang Foom back to sleep.
