The Mad Scientist's lair is a fictional location featured in the Superman animated film shorts by Fleischer Studios. It appeared in the first film short, "The Mad Scientist".
History[]
The lair was an observatory silo that also doubled as a laboratory. It was owned and operated by an unidentified Mad Scientist and was located some distance away from Metropolis. When Daily Planet investigative reporter Lois Lane began looking into the story behind the Mad Scientist's public threats, she took a single-engine airplane to the laboratory. She was immediately apprehended and bound to a chair. The scientist promised her a demonstration of the awesome power of his invention - the Electrothanasia-ray.
The Mad Scientist used the ray three times; first to destroy the Island Bridge, and secondly to target the Daily Planet. Though Superman was too late to save the bridge, he did succeed in safeguarding the skyscraper. He intercepted the Eletrothanasia-ray, punching back against it, forcing its energy to feed back upon itself, until the electro generator overloaded and exploded, destroying the laboratory. Lois and Lane and the Mad Scientist were able to flee the building just in time.
