MacGruder, first name unknown, was an officer in the United States Air Force holding the rank of Colonel. Years ago, an unidentified alien vessel crash landed in the Bronx and local law enforcement agents arrived on the scene. When the USAF learned of the situation, they sent MaGruder to the site to take command. NYPD detectives Dave Clarson and Jack O'Donnell did not appreciate having their investigation superseded by the military. MacGruder was gruff, and had little patience with the men.
