"The Would-Be Prince of Darkness" is the third episode of season one of the supernatural crime-drama series Lucifer. It was directed by Louis Milito with a script written by Jason Ning and Jenn Kao. It first aired on the FOX Network on Monday, February 8th, 2016 at 8:00 pm.
Synopsis[]
An up-and-coming star quarterback named Ty Huntley throws a wild party at his L.A. residence. Lucifer is one of the guests in attendance and convinces Ty to lose his virginity. The following morning, Ty finds Ali floating face-down in the swimming pool. He awakens Lucifer to tell him, who in turn calls in Detective Becker. Chloe arrives on the scene and declares that this was not an accidental drowning. It was murder.
Since Lucifer is actually a witness at the crime scene, Chloe is now forced to work with him - again. Lucifer has his own hang-ups to deal with however, as he had only recently learned that some "wanker" has been going around calling himself Lucifer Morningstar, thus ruining the true Lucifer's good bad name.
During the investigation, they speak with Ty Huntley's agent, Joe Hanson, who points them in the direction of Debra Macall, who is Ty's on-again/off-again girlfriend. While interviewing Debra at her school, someone tries to take her out by blowing up her car. To get to the root of the mystery, Chloe and Lucifer decide to enlist the aid of a Hollywood "fixer" named Ronnie Hillman. Lucifer makes a side-deal with Ronnie to track down the one who has been impersonating him. Ronnie fulfills her end of the deal and kidnaps a young man named Justin. Lucifer is prepared to unleash Hellish vengeance upon him for besmirching his name, but decides to show mercy.
A follow-up visit to Joe Hanson's office turns tense, and Lucifer antagonizes him to the point that he confesses to murdering Ali Thornton. Joe feared that Ty was going to leave him for another agent, so he felt that if he couldn't have the star athlete - nobody could. Lucifer demonstrates some demonic strength by effortlessly shoving the large man through a window with a simple shove. Chloe doesn't know what to make of this. She spends the remainder of evening replaying security footage showing Lucifer pushing Joe Hanson through the window.
