The Lower East Side (often abbreviated as LES) is a neighborhood in the southeastern part of the New York City borough of Manhattan. It is roughly bounded by Allen Street, East Houston Street, Essex Street, Canal Street, Eldridge Street, East Broadway, and Grand Street.
It was traditionally an immigrant, working-class neighborhood. It has undergone rapid gentrification starting in the mid-2000s, prompting The National Trust for Historic Preservation to place the neighborhood on their list of America's Most Endangered Places. It has become a home to upscale boutiques and trendy dining establishments along Clinton Street's restaurant row. [1]
Marvel Universe[]
Jack Russell took up residence in a small low-rent apartment in the Lower East Side during his adult years. His girlfriend Roxanna also lived in the area. Jack got a job for the sanitation department working in the sewers. He would use these underground catacombs as a safe haven on nights of the full moon when he would transform into a werewolf. [2]
