"The Reluctant Stowaway" is the pilot episode of the science fiction television series Lost in Space by Irwin Allen Productions. Directed by Anton Leader and written by S. Bar-David, it first aired on the CBS network on Wednesday, September 15th, 1965. In this premiere episode, Doctor John Robinson prepares for the launch of the Jupiter 2 interplanetary space vessel bound for Alpha Centauri. Accompanied by his family as well as pilot Major Don West, the Jupiter 2 leaves Earth, but the devious Doctor Zachary Smith sabotages the ship leaving the Robinsons lost in space.
