Lo-Zar, also known as Tharn, is a fictional jungle adventure hero featured in comic books published by Atlas Comics and Marvel Comics. He first appeared in the first story from Jungle Action #1 in October, 1954 titled "The Trail of Sudden Death!"
Biography[]
Lo-Zar was an adult Caucasian male who was a warrior and adventurer operating around the North Jungles near Matubi Province in Africa. Almost nothing is known of his history, save that he was an intelligent man who prided himself on defending the areas surrounding his territory, which included not only normal predatory animals, but also time-lost creatures, such as dinosaurs.
One day, Lo-Zar was swinging through the trees of the Black Swamp, north of Matubi Province. He avoidsed the path of two dinosaurs wandering through the swamp and came upon a poacher named Pete. Lo-Zar apprehended Pete, and turned him into the Matubi police.
Immediately following this, Lo-Zar discovered that hunters were searching for Uranium and were in connection with the Soviet Red army, who were likewise in the jungle.
Lo-Zar began tracking the Reds, but had to avoid being eaten by the dinosaurs of the swamp. Landing atop a tyrannosaur, he baited it into fighting a brontosaurus. While the two animals were distracted, he located the Reds.
The Soviets captured Lo-Zar and kept him bound inside their camp. Lo-Zar let out an animal cry that summoned Gata the elephant. The elephant obeyed Lo-Zar's commands and demolished the camp. It tossed two soldiers about with its trunk, and pressed its foot down upon their leader, Ivan, trapping him. Once Lo-Zar was freed, he had Gata release Ivan and he was turned over to the district police. [1]
