Liz Sherman is a fictional pyrokinetic and a supporting character featured in the Hellboy comic book franchise. She first appeared in Hellboy: Seed of Destruction #2 in April, 1994. A version of Liz Sherman also appeared in the 2004 Hellboy feature film where she was played by actress Selma Blair.
Biography[]
Elizabeth Anne Sherman was born in Kansas City, Kansas on April 15th, 1962. A natural pyshokinetic, she developed the power of pyrokinesis by age eleven. Like most "firestarters", Liz' abilities manifested in the most traumatic way. The resulting flames that she emitted the first time her abilities spawned destroyed an entire city block, resulting in thirty-two fatalities, among whom where her own parents, a brother, and three firefighters. Liz became a ward of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense in 1974. From there, she was trained in how to control her pyrokinetic abilities. The last uncontrolled manifestation of her powers ws on July 4th, 1984.
In 1994, Liz accompanied Hellboy and Abe Sapien to Cavendish Hall to investigate the death of B.P.R.D. administrator Trevor Bruttenholm. They met the elderly Emma Cavendish and learned about the family's history and how it related to Bruttenholm. During this investigation, Cavendish's butler, Sven Olafson was revealed to be a frog monster pawn of Grigori Rasputin, who fought up against Hellboy in the manor. [1]
