Biography[]

Hmmm. Wonder what's up with Lilly?

Lilly was born in the year 1963. As a child, she was inducted into the Cult of Abraxis. It is possible that she may have even been born into the cult, her conception purposely intended as a human sacrifice to further the cult's ends, and to offer up glory to their patron demonic deity, Abraxis. The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted a raid on the cult's compound. Refusing to be apprehended, cult leader Szandor D'Abo instructed his followers to take their own lives; and they did so, by dousing themselves on fire. For reasons unknown, Lilly survived and was taken into protective custody.

She was remanded to the care of Doctor June Ross-Mitchell, who sought to deprogram her from the cult's teachings, but in doing so, discovered something even more dire - Lilly was possessed by a demon. Lilly referred to her uninvited presence as Mister Wriggles, due to its propensity to wriggle into her mind, and then wriggle back out. Lilly became Doctor Ross-Mitchell's life's work, and the subject of a book.

Oh, yeah. She definitely possessed.

One of June's colleagues, Jack Delroy, was a late night talk show host who cajoled June into bringing Lilly onto the show as a special guest. It was sweeps week and Jack was desperate to give his show just the punch it needed to knock Johnny Carson out of the ratings top slot. June was reluctant to bring Lilly onto the show, but ultimately relented. During the show, June conducted a séance to awaken the demonic spirit within her charge. Lilly demonstrated all of the classic signs of possession, including unnatural vocal patterns, an altered facial complexion and even levitation.

Although the guests were transfixed by the display, one of Jack Delroy's other guests, paranormal debunker Carmichael Haig, was less than impressed. He accused Jack and June of conspiring to put on a hoax and went so far as to put on his own display of hypnosis and mental trickery to prove his point. At Lilly's suggestion, Jack Delroy played back the recording of the séance to prove that what the audience witnessed actually took place.

Mister Wriggles... come on down!

If that weren't enough however, the power of Abraxis proved itself beyond a shadow of a doubt when it took complete control of Lilly. Arcs of electricity flew across the stage entering her body, and her head split in two, issuing forth a blinding white light. Lilly used telekinesis to break program MC's Gus McConnell's neck, threw Jack against the wall of the set, and caused Carmichael Haig's skin to blister and burn until his flesh melted off his body. Jack, suffering his own form of supernatural delirium, took up a dagger and stabbed Lilly through the heart on live television.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The character of Lilly was created by Directors and writers Cameron Cairnes and Colin Cairnes.
  • Final fate: It is generally accepted that Lilly died when Jack Delroy stabbed her in the chest with the sacrificial dagger. However, an argument can be made that Lilly died shortly before the fatal stabbing when her head split open, releasing the demonic presence held within.
  • Playing the role of Lilly is Australian actress Ingrid Torelli's first feature film work. Prior to this, she only appeared four film shorts, ten episodes of The End, and six episodes of Bloom.
  • It is possible that Lilly might be the biological child of Szandor D'Abo - the head of the Cult of Abraxas, though this is unclear.
  • It has been theorized that Lilly's survival of the cult compound raid may have been intentional as a means of spreading Abraxas' influence into the real world.
  • Lilly gave the demon possessing her the name Mister Wriggles. This is reminiscent of the 1973 film The Exorcist wherein possessed 12-year-old Regan MacNeil gave the demonic influence affecting her the nickname of Captain Howdy.
  • Abraxas is a mystical word of Gnostic origin, sometimes associated with the word "Abracadabra", which has also been used as a mystical incantation. In Late Night With the Devil, Abraxas is the name of a higher form of demon. Another demon named Abraxas appeared in the "Witch Trial" episode of Charmed in 1999 and was played by Walter Phelan.
