Tales from the Crypt[]

Lillian was a woman who lived in a lavish plantation house during the years of the American Civil War. She was married to a man named Charbonnet, but she had an affair with a much younger gentleman. When Charbonnet discovered their dalliance, he put a curse on Lillian, stating that no young man would ever ascend the stairs to see her ever again. The effect of this curse was that should a young man climb the stairs, they would instantly age. In converse, if Lillian attempted to descend the stairs, she would lose her youth. Remaining in the house, however, she was effectively immortal. In the modern era, the aged Lillian opened the doors to her home to a man named Clyde, who was wanted by the local sheriff for murder. She gave Clyde sanctuary, but he was somewhat short on gratitude, displaying a measure of disgust for this aging crone. Lillian went upstairs where her youth was restored, and Clyde suddenly developed a deep attraction for her. She told him about the curse, and they realized that only be meeting each other halfway upon the steps would they be able to be together. The sheriff came to the house looking for Clyde, so Lilian told him to go to the top of the stairs. As an old man, the sheriff would never recognize him. Clyde did as instructed while Lilian went downstairs and addressed the sheriff as an old woman. When Clyde found that the sheriff intended on letting his dog snoop around the house, he panicked ascended into the attic. He grew so old that his body could no longer support him and he collapsed. After the sheriff had left, Lilian raced upstairs, but as the curse worked on her in the reverse, she emerged in the attic as an infant. It is believed that Clyde eventually crawled back downstairs to restore his youth, and then waited for Lilian to grow enough so that she could descend the cursed steps on her own so they could be together for all eternity.
