Life Model Decoy (LMD) is a fictional model of robot featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. They were invented by Tony Stark and manufactured through his company, Stark Industries, and put to use for the benefit of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agency. They first appeared in the first story from Strange Tales #135 in August, 1965 called "The Man for the Job". Life Model Decoys are robot simulacrums of human beings. The are utilized by S.H.I.E.L.D. in dangerous situations wherein the individual from which the LMD is based may find their life in jeopardy.
Life Model Decoys also appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe beginning with the season four premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. titled, "The Ghost".
