"Close Encounters" is the title to the special zero issue of the Legionnaires ongoing comic book series published by DC Comics. The story was written by Mark Waid and Tom McCraw and illustrated by Jeffrey Moy with inks by Ron Boyd. It was colored by Tom McCraw and lettered by Pat Brosseau. The cover art illustration was rendered by Jeffrey Moy and Karl Story. The story was edited by KC Carlson with Mike McAvennie as assistant editor. This issue shipped with an October, 1994 cover date and carries a cover price of $1.50 per copy (US).
The fledgling Legion of Super-Heroes gets in way over its head during its first official mission, investigating the assassination attempt of its mentor, R.J. Brande. Even the Legionnaires cannot prevent a second murder attempt--not without the help of some mysterious new recruits.

- The Legion of Super-Heroes were created by writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino. They first appeared as a three-member team in the first story in Adventure Comics #247 in April, 1958 titled "The Legion of Super-Heroes". The group would go on to become the main feature of the series and would also spawn numerous Legion of Super-Heroes ongoing comic titles as well as a cartoon series.
