The Lazarus Book is a fictional magical item featured in comic books published by Dynamite Entertainment. It relates to the Vampirella series of titles and first appeared in Vengeance of Vampirella, Volume 2 #1 in October, 2019.
History[]
The Lazarus Book was an ancient mystical text containing spells and incantations of great power and is considered one of the most prized magical artifacts in all of the world. It was said to contain the life essence of the Biblical Lazarus himself, who was brought back from the realm of the dead by Jesus Christ. Legend has it that to employ the power within the pages of the book was to tempt the very forces of creation itself.
In the near future, Mistress Nyx, having killed Vampirella, took control over major portions of the globe with her Chaos Lords. The Lazarus Book had been hidden in a library buried beneath a crypt. Pendragon of the Danse Macabre society sent one of his agents, Danser Cobb to retrieve the book. Cobb returned it to Pendragon, but in order to complete the ritual he needed to use, he had to offer up a sacrifice of blood. Pendragon slit Danser Cobb's throat, and used the blood sacrifice to entreat the book to resurrect Vampirella, who had been gone for nearly twenty-five years.
