The Lawnmower Man is an American feature film of the cyberpunk subgenre of science fiction, which also blends some elements of the horror genre as well. It is an adaptation of a short story called "The Lawnmower Man" by author Stephen King, which was first published in the May, 1975 issue of Cavalier. It was later included in the Night Shift anthology collection in 1978. The movie was directed by Brett Leonard with a screenplay written by Leonard and Gimel Everett. It was produced by Alliance Films of Canada, as well as Allied Vision, Fuji Eight Company Ltd. and Lane Pringle Productions. Distributed through New Line Cinema, it premiered in Fresno, California on February 14th, 1992. It opened to wide release in the United States and Canada on March 6th, 1992. The film stars Jeff Fahey as Jobe Smith with Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Lawrence Angelo.
