Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of North America, and the only one located entirely within the United States. The second largest of the Great Lakes by volume and the third largest of the Great Lakes by surface area (behind Lake Superior and Lake Huron), it is bounded, from west to east, by the U.S. states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. The word "Michigan" was originally used to refer to the lake itself, and is believed to come from the Ojibwa Indian word mishigami, meaning "great water." The lake is slightly smaller than the US state of West Virginia.
DC Comics[]
Batman was fighting an O.M.A.C. in a Chicago facility. The O.M.A.C. injured him with a needle-laser and punched him through the wall of the building. It then super-charged its attack and knocked Batman clear into Lake Michigan. Batman was barely conscious, but fortunately, Superman arrived to scoop him to safety. [1]
Points of Interest[]
- Lightning Island
- Lightning Island is an island located on Lake Michigan. In the 1950s, it was used as a geological research station by scientists Sam Thorne, Cap Zanser and Carl Burgess. They discovered mineral deposits left behind by a meteorite, which demonstrated bizarre, inexplicable properties. Under certain conditions, the fragmented pieces of rock began growing and fusing with other pieces in order to reconstitute the meteor. As the meteor (or "dune roller" grew in size, it began giving off waves of intense heat. Cap Zanser got too close to the dune roller and was burned to death by its white hot luminescence. [2]
