Minogue is a fictional uniformed police officer and a central character on the New Zealand based comedy series Wellington Paranormal. The character actually made his first appearance in the 2014 feature film What We Do in the Shadows. He was played by actor Mike Minogue.

Biography[]

Minogue was a uniformed officer with the Wellington Police District of the New Zealand Police Force. He worked under Sergeant Ruawai Maaka and was partnered with a female officer named O'Leary.

In 2014, Minogue and O'Leary responded to a disturbance in the suburb of Te Aro. They interviewed four housemates at a flat, unaware that they were all in fact vampires. The vampires used their powers of hypnosis and mesmerism to obfuscate their activities, but in truth, Minogue and O'Leary probably wouldn't have noticed anything out of sorts anyway. [2]

In 2018, Minogue encountered an underage girl on Cuba Street who appeared to be a in a state of distress. While attempting to keep her calm, Minogue found himself caught off guard as the girl demonstrated superhuman strength by flinging him across the street. It turned out that this girl was possessed by a demon known as Bazu'aal of the Unholy Realm. When the officers brought the possessed girl back to the Wellington Central Police Station, Minogue was too scared to interrogate her, and made O'Leary do it. [3]

Later that same evening, Minogue and O'Leary responded to a domestic disturbance at 9 Greys Avenue. They discovered a woman who was complaining that her husband Gary suddenly went crazy and began rampaging throughout the garage. When the entered the garage, Gary was walking across the ceiling. Minogue pointed out that he was breaking the law... of gravity. Gary had been possessed by Bazu'aal, but the demon left his body and jumped into his wife. Minogue pursued the possessed woman into a playground where it jumped again into the body of a dog that spoke to Minogue, which upset him greatly. [3]

Minogue was later present at the Bucket Fountain at Cuba Mall where he, O'Leary and Maaka performed a rudimentary exorcism that succeeded in banishing Bazu'aal. [3]

Skills[]

  • Police procedure: Despite his intellectual failings, Minogue has a keen knowledge of police procedure and does his level best to maintain the standards expected of him by the New Zealand Police.

Weaknesses[]

  • Low intelligence: It is quite possible that Officer Minogue might just be the dumbest person on the planet. Even dumber than babies. At the very least, he is the least intelligent person to come out of New Zealand; including babies.
