The Knowby cabin is a fictional building featured in the Evil Dead franchise. It first appeared in the 1981 film The Evil Dead, where it served as the primary setting. It also appeared in the sequel film Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn. The cabin was re-introduced in the last three episodes from season one of the Starz television series Ash vs Evil Dead.
Description[]
The Knowby cabin was a small wooden single-story cabin located in the woods near Elk Grove in Tennessee. It was utilized by archaeologist Raymond Knowby, his wife Henrietta Knowby and daughter Annie Knowby. While visiting the cabin, Raymond Knowby translated passages from the Necronomicon Ex Mortis - The Book of the Dead. This awakened the Deadites, which took possession of Henrietta, whom Raymond had to secure inside of a fruit cellar. Raymond disappeared, never to be heard from again - another victim of the Deadites.
Shortly after this incident, a group of four youths came to the cabin for a weekend getaway. They found Professor Knowby's recordings and played them. Knowby's auditory recital of the incantations again awakened the spirits of the dead, who took possession of Scott, Linda, and Cheryl Williams. Cheryl's brother, Ash Williams, was forced to kill each of them in turn and in so doing became the guardian of the Necronomicon, which opened up a portal to 14th century Europe and whisked Ash (and his car) away.
