Type: | Chemical compound |
Availability: | Uncommon item |
Knockout gas is a chemical compound designed to render one unconscious. It is also referred to as sleeping gas. It possesses similar properties to that of anesthesia, but usually expressed to an exaggerated degree. On the 1966 live-action TV series Batman, the heroes Batman and Robin were perpetually being rendered insensate due to some form of knockout gas. Robin was duped by the Riddler in such a fashion in the second episode of the series, "Smack in the Middle". TV Amazons do not appear to be immune to knockout gas either. On the 1970s Wonder Woman TV series, the eponymous hero Wonder Woman herself was rendered unconscious by some villain ambushing her with knockout gas.
The masked hero known as the Britt Reid used knockout gas, which game out of a gun-shaped dispenser that he used to incapacitate foes (and sometimes allies). This weapon was referred to as the "Hornet gas".
