The Knights Templar, or Templar Knights are an actual military service organization utilized by the Catholic Church in the 12th century. Also known as the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, they were first established in the year 1119 and were active until the early 14th century. The Templar Knights have been featured in various forms of popular fiction including the Doctor Who and Indiana Jones franchises.
In an alternate timeline caused by the time field in "The Big Bang" episode of Doctor Who, the Knights Templar possessed the Pandorica, which was guarded by the Lone Centurion, in 1120.
In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, archaeologists Henry Jones, Sr. and Henry "Indiana" Jones, Jr. sought the Holy Grail in the 1930s and encountered its guardian, which was a still-living templar knight.
In the Witchblade comic book series, a man named Kenneth Irons was a member of the Templar Knights. He drank from the Holy Grail, which gave him an extended lifespan, and remained active until the modern era.
