Karl Emmett was a supporting character featured in the "The Duplicate Man" episode of the original 1960s anthology series The Outer Limits. He was played by actor Sean McClory.

Biography[]

Karl Emmett was active during the early half of the 21st century. In the year 2009, Emmett captained a space vessel along with his friend Henderson James to acquire a species of alien life form known as a Megasoid. Due to the violent nature of these creatures, transporting Megasoids to Earth had been illegal since 1986. James paid Emmett handsomely for helping him to smuggle the creature back to Earth, but the reward also came at great cost. The Megasoid brutally injured Emmett, scarring the left side of his face.

In 2011, Emmett received a visit from a man whom he believed to be Henderson James. In truth, it was actually a clone duplicate. The real Henderson James had the duplicate created in order to hunt down and destroy the Megasoid, which had since escaped from his private holding facility. At first, Emmett didn't realize that he was speaking with a clone, but when James began acting irrationally, he threatened to go to the police. The duplicate clubbed Karl across the back of the head then left.

Shortly thereafter, the real Henderson James came to Emmett's apartment. Karl note the radical difference in his demeanor (as well as his lack of memory of what transpired earlier) and realized that his first visitor was a clone. He deduced correctly that Henderson James had the duplicate created to kill the Megasoid because he lacked the courage to do it himself. Now however, Henderson was concerned that the clone was assimilating his memories and could threaten to replace him entirely. He wanted Karl's help in locating him and killing the duplicate.

Karl accompanied Henderson James back to his estate. While he lurked about outside, the Megasoid emerged from the trees and attacked him. The two grappled with one another and the Megasoid raked Emmett across the back with his claws. He then picked him up and threw him hard upon the ground, killing him.
