A Kamoebas is a fictional daikaiju ("giant monster") featured in films produced by the Toho Company. It first appeared in the 1970 movie Space Amoeba. A Kamoebas also made a brief appearance in an episode of the Go! Godman television series. The carcass of a dead Kamoebas was briefly seen in the movie Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. in 2003.
Overview[]
A Kamoebas is a giant monster that is similar in form to that of a giant rock turtle. It has also been known by the name Megalo Matamata. A Kamoebas stands at 10 meters in height and has a length of 20 meters. It weighs approximately 28,000 tons. [2] The Kamoebas were first discovered by Doctor Miya on Selgio Island.
Biography[]
In 1970, a space amoeba came to Earth and took possession of several different animals, mutating them and controlling their minds for the sake of world domination. One of these creatures was a rock turtle that was mutated into a Kamoebas. Along with a mutated stone crab known as Ganimes, the Kamoebas began attacking humans on a volcanic island. The humans used explosives to cause a volcano to erupt. The resulting lava overwhelmed the two creatures, destroying both of them. [3]
The body of a Kamoebas was found washed up on shore on the Pacific Coast in 2004. As soon as it was discovered, members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force cordoned off the area and began inspecting the remains. It was the first of its kind sighted in that area in over seventeen years. A member of the military concluded that the creature must have been wounded at sea by some form of giant predator. He noted the deep lacerations across the left side of the Kamoebas' neck. It was this officer's belief that the only thing that could have killed it was Godzilla. [4]

- Kamoebas' name is derived from the Japanese word "kame," which means turtle.
- Kamoebas' scientific name "Megalo Matamata" is derived from the Greek word "Megalos", which means "giant" or "great"
- Originally it was director Masaaki Tezuka's intent to have Anguirus as the dead monster that washes up ashore in Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S., but this was changed to the more obscure Kamoebas to avoid fan outrage.
