Jyota Nital is a fictional character featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. She is associated with the Dracula line of titles and first appeared in Tomb of Dracula #24 in June, 1974.
Biography[]
Jyota Nital was an Indian woman from the town of Jajpur in Odisha, India. She was married to Taj Nital and had a son named Adri. Several years ago, the Nitals were walking through the marketplace in Jajpur when they were set upon by a horde of vampires. Taj suffered a severe injury to the throat, rendering him mute, and Adri was turned into a vampire. Jyota panicked and fled, but a vampire pounced upon her, pushing her beneath an overturning carriage. The vehicle crushed her legs and she was left permanently crippled.
The experience drove a deep wedge between Taj and herself. Taj left Jajpur to become a vampire hunter with the likes of Rachel van Helsing and Quincy Harker. Jyota remained behind to look after their son. She kept him hidden from the locals and supplied him with blood to keep him alive, though she was forced to physically restrain him or else he would give in to his more monstrous urges.
Five years later, Jyota wrote to Taj begging him to return to Jajpur. Taj came home, but had not yet full forgiven his wife for her act of cowardice. She begged forgiveness and told him that the local villagers were gathering to end Adri's existence. Despite her efforts, she was unable to prevent her son from being killed.
