Shaggy Man 001 — You thought the Scooby Man was bad? Wait until you meet... The Shaggy Man!

The Justice League of America was created by writer Gardner Fox, artist Mike Sekowsky, and inkers Bernard Sachs, Joe Giella, and Murphy Anderson. They first appeared in a three-issue story-arc from The Brave and the Bold beginning with "Starro the Conqueror!" in The Brave and the Bold #28 in February-March 1960, before launching off into their own Justice League of America ongoing comic book series in October-November 1960.

This issue carries the stamp of approval of the Comics Code Authority.

This issue shipped to retailers on April 26th, 1966.

The tagline to this issue is "The Justice Leaguers were warned there was no way to defeat Shaggy Man -- but they were willing to die trying!"

Green Lantern and Superman are not listed among the JLA roll call for this issue.

This issue includes a half-page Cap's Hobby Hints activity page.

This issue includes a house ad for Scooter #1.

Professor Zagarian and the Shaggy Man are presented as pastiches of Victor Frankenstein and the Frankenstein Monster as seen in the 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus by author Mary Shelley.

The island where the Flash finds Andrew Zagarian is unidentified.

Professor Zagarian indicates that the Shaggy Man is comprised of Plastalloy, Vitallium, Cerosium, and Silastic. All of these are fictional compounds.

Another pastiche of the Shaggy Man is Bionic Bigfoot as seen in episodes of The Bionic Woman and The Six Million Dollar Man.

Green Arrow uses a stun-gas arrow against the Shaggy Man, but it has no affect.

Abner Michaels' story of a metallic meteor breaking apart over South America is based on an actual account. ^[1]
