The Jundland Wastes is a region of rocky terrain located between the Western and Northern Dune Sea on the planet Tatooine. Unlike the Dune Sea, which is a veritable sandswept desert, the Jundland Wastes are a series of hills and canyons that are home to several nomadic species including Jawas and Sandpeople.

In 22 BBY, a group of Sandpeople raided a human settlement and abducted Shmi Skywalker. She was taken back to one of their tribal huts and held captive for several weeks. Shmi's husband, Cliegg Lars put together a search team and combed the Wastes looking for Shmi. They encountered several Tusken Raiders, who savagely slew most of the party. Cliegg escaped, but lost his right leg in the process. When Shmi's son Anakin Skywalker heard the news of his mother's disappearance, he took a speeder bike into the Jundland Wastes and tracked down the Raider tribe responsible for her abduction. He rescued his mother, but by this point, her injuries and lack of sustenance proved too much and she died in Anakin's arms. Giving in to his own innate anger, Anakin brutally killed all of the Sandpeople present with his lightsaber. [1]

In 0 BBY, the astromech droid R2-D2 ventured through the Jundland Wastes when he was attacked by a tribe of Jawas. The diminutive scavengers incapacitated the droid and fitted him with a restraining bolt before loading him into their giant sandcrawler.

A short time later, Luke Skywalker ventured into the Jundland Wastes in search of R2-D2. Several Sandpeople ambushed him and would likely have killed him had it not been for the timely arrival of Obi-Wan Kenobi. [2]
