Joyce Byers is a bit of a nutter. She is a fictional mother and retail clerk and one of the main characters featured on the Netflix original series Stranger Things. Frantically played to the utmost nuttiness by actress Winona Ryder, she first appeared in the pilot episode of the series, "Chapter One: The Vanishing of Will Byers".

Early life[]
Joyce Byers grew up in the city of Hawkins, Indiana. As a teenager, she attended Hawkins High School, where she dated the town's future sheriff, Jim Hopper. Joyce and Jim used to sneak cigarettes and smoke them under the bleachers.
As an adult, Joyce worked as a clerk at a local retail outlet. She met a man named Lonnie, whom she married. Joyce had two children with Lonnie, the oldest being Jonathan Byers, who was born sometime in the late 1960s. Her second son was Will Byers, who was born in the early 1970s. Joyce and Lonnie divorced when Jonathan was about thirteen or so, and he moved out and got a new place.
