Biography[]
Joy Wilkes was the daughter of Annie Wilkes - a nurse with a dark history. Joy was unaware of the secrets of her mother's youth, but only knew that her mother and she had to travel from state to state, always assuming new names, in order to find a perfect living environment, which Annie referred to as "The Laughing Place".
In 2019, Annie and Joy were driving through Castle County when they got into an automobile accident. They were forced to take up residence in the town of Jerusalem's Lot in a small house owned by John "Ace" Merrill.
Despite her mother's attempts to keep Joy sheltered from the world around her, Joy sought companionship away from her mother, and befriended a local woman named Chance.
