John Newland was an American television director and actor. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 23rd, 1917. His first role in a science fiction project was playing the role of scientist Victor Frankenstein in the "Frankenstein" episode of Tales of Tomorrow. He also starred in the Tales of Tomorrow adaptation of "The Picture of Dorian Gray". In 1967, John Newland directed the "Errand of Mercy" episode of the original Star Trek - one of the most pivotal episodes of the program's entire three-year run. He also produced the 1987 television movie Timestalkers. Newland passed away in Los Angeles, California on January 10th, 2000 at the age of 82.
