Biography[]
John Aelsop Bishop was a voodoo practitioner who went by the name of "Dr. Death". He operated out of the Chicago area in the 1980s and became a mentor to serial killer Charles Lee Ray. One of the processes that Dr. Death taught Ray was how to use the Heart of Damballa to transfer his soul into another body. When Ray was gunned down by Detective Mike Norris however, he was forced to displace his spirit into a Good Guy doll named "Chucky".
Chucky eventually sought John out, demanding him to use his skills to fix his present situation. John refused, now realizing just how evil Charles Lee Ray actually was. Chucky had learned enough about voodoo however in order to construct a voodoo doll of Dr. Death. He tortured John by stabbing the doll, until John revealed that they only way his soul can escape being trapped inside of the doll is by transferring it to the first person he revealed his true self to, which would have been a six-year-old boy named Andy Barclay. After receiving the information he needed, Chucky stabbed the doll one final time, ending John's life. [2]
A few months later, a horror movie fantastic named Russ and a group of his friends, came upon Chucky and brought him back to Russ' house. They performed a séance wherein they summoned Doctor Death. The spirit of Doctor Death warned them against trusting Chucky. [3]
