Biography[]
Joanne Marie Tumolo was a member of a race of demonic felines known as the Cat People, who lived in an interdimensional realm known as the Land Within. She came to the Earth plane and assumed a human form of that of a middle-aged woman where she became a professor of physics at the University of Chicago. With the aid of financier Malcolm Donalbain, she began conducting private experiments relating to motor function and the nervous system. Her experiments were designed to unlock the full physical and mental potential of any woman.
Professor Tumolo selected her own lab assistant, Greer Grant, as the subject of her experiment. The experiment gave Greer enhanced strength, speed and reflexes, and she became the costumed superhero known as The Cat. [1]
Agents of the terrorist organization known as Hydra attempted to kidnap Joanne Tumolo, and Greer was shot with an alpha radiation weapon while trying to defend her. To save Greer's life, she petitioned her own kind, the Cat People, to use their abilities to turn her into one of them. Greer Grant was then transformed into Tigra, the Were-Woman. [2]
After her transformation, Tumolo brought Tigra to Professor Leon to expose her to a process that would allow her to take human form. [3]
