Biography[]
Jesse Hyde was a black man and the father of David Hyde, who would one day grow up to become the super-villain known as Black Manta. Jesse possessed a sense of entitlement as it pertained to riches found, and expressed these sentiments to David at a young age, when he began plucking coins out of a wishing well. David lived with Jesse aboard his boat, which was dubbed The Black Manta.
Notes & Trivia[]
- In the comics, Black Manta's father was never given a proper name. The given name Jesse is taken from the live-action version of the character played by Michael Beach in the Aquaman feature film. The surname Hyde is taken from Jackson Hyde, who is his grandson.
- Jesse Hyde's personality was used as the D.N.A. template to govern the artificial intelligence used in the Mecha Manta armor designed by Lex Luthor.
