Jean Loring is a young woman with dark hair who hails from Ivy Town, Connecticut. She was a lawyer who was intimately involved with, and later married to physicist Ray Palmer. Jean was aware of Ray's dual identity as the Atom, but after several years, Ray's super-heroing exploits took its toll on their marriage and they divorced. After being separated for several years, Jean began to long for Ray's attention again. Her jealousy grew into a pathological mania, to the point that she actually used Ray's white dwarf star matter to adjust her own size, at which point she accidentally killed Sue Dibny - the wife of the Elongated Man. After Jean's involvement in this crime was discovered, she was remanded to the care of Arkham Asylum in Gotham City. She was eventually seduced by the dark Vengeance God Eclipso and became the host form for his power.
