Biography[]

Sunderland Corporation CEO Avery Carlton Sunderland freed Jason Woodrue from prison and hired him on as a special botany consultant for a very particular project. Sunderland had captured and presumably killed the creature known as the Swamp Thing and wanted Woodrue to study it to see if there was any viable information that could be obtained from the corpse regarding the Bio-restorative formula developed by the Swamp Thing's human alter ego, Alec Holland.

Woodrue spent six weeks studying the Swamp Thing's inert remains. His findings concluded that everyone's perception as to what the Swamp Thing's nature was wholly inaccurate. Everyone believed that accidental exposure to the bio-restorative formula had transformed Holland into the Swamp Thing. In fact, it was the vegetative matter of the surrounding swamplands, infused with the chemicals of the formula that achieve self awareness and mimicked the personality and memories of Holland; in fact believing itself to actually be Holland. After sharing this information with Sunderland, the wealthy businessman had no further use for Woodrue and fired him. Woodrue got his revenge however when he shut down all of the security systems to the Sunderland building, including the cryogenic units that were keeping the Swamp Thing's body in stasis. The Swamp Thing was revived and killed Avery Sunderland moments later. Woodrue escaped from the building undetected. [1]
