Biography[]
Jane Hart was an elderly woman who lived in the Florida Everglades. She was the wife of Edward Hart and the mother of Elizabeth Hart. Jane and Edward were both upset when Elizabeth ran off to marry one of their laborers, David Connelly, whom they both felt were beneath her station. They were even more upset when they learned that Elizabeth was pregnant with David's child.
Jane attacks the Man-Thing.
Rounding up David's father, they pursued the newlyweds out into the swamp. They found them lying dead in a cabin, both apparent victims of consuming poisoned well water. Elizabeth had already given birth, but there was no evidence of a baby. They soon discovered that the Man-Thing had discovered the infant and took it out into the swamps. Jane approached the Man-Thing and warned her husband not to fire for fear of hitting the child. Despite her own advice, Jane advanced on the creature and pointed her shotgun directly into its face, but the bullet had little effect. She tried to fire a second time, but some of the Man-Thing's slime got into the gun barrel, clogging it up. The weapon backfired, blowing back on Jane, killing her.
