- Matt Damon and Jake Gyllenhaal were the studio's first choice to play Jake Sully, but James Cameron decided to cast an unknown Sam Worthington in the lead role. According to Worthington, he was invited to the casting via a telephone call. Whoever called him told him nothing about the script, nor even told the director's name and Sam was disappointed at first, thinking it was "another waste of time". [2][3]
- The Na'vi tended to pronounce Jake's full name as if it were one word, Jakesully.
- While the Na'vi possess three fingers and an opposable thumb, Jake's avatar possessed four fingers and an opposable thumb. The same holds true for his feet, which has five toes as opposed to the Na'vi's four.
