Biography[]

Jackson Arvad was the chief scientist for electromagnetic research at the Brand Corporation, a subsidiary of the Roxxon Oil Company. His superior in the Brand bureaucracy, James Melvin, drove Arvad relentlessly to develop projects for Melvin under the threat of being fired. [1]

During a laboratory mishap, a gravitic energy surge shattered the "magno-chamber" in whose vicinity Arvad was working. The accident plunged Arvad's body directly into the magno-chamber's self-sustained electromagnetic field, and the residual high frequency field weakened the electromagnetic attractions between the molecules of Arvad's body. This caused the molecules of Arvad's body to gradually disperse. Melvin held Arvad in the magno-chamber long enough to question him on any useful scientific applications the accident might have had, and then left Arvad to die. Arvad emerged from the magno-chamber, swearing revenge against the efforts of the Brand Corporation. He became known as the Will O' the Wisp. [2]

The Will O' the Wisp raided the Boston facility of the Brand Corporation. A security guard named Jenkins tried to drive him off by shooting at him, but the bullets from his revolver passed harmlessly through him. The Will-o'-the -Wisp warned Jenkins to flee before he used his powers to demolish the entire facility. Jenkins activated an evacu-alarm, and the site's staff began racing for the exits. The Will-o'-the -Wisp reached the central utilities core and began ripping apart pipes and hoses, exclaiming about how he had warned Brand against running natural gas lines so close to high voltage terminals. His efforts at sabotage caused the entire lower floor of the building to explode. [3]
