Jack Murdock is a fictional boxer featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is part of the mainstream Marvel Universe and first appeared in Daredevil, Volume 1 #1 in April, 1964. He is a recurring character in the Daredevil family of comic book titles.
Overview[]
Battlin' Jack Murdock was a professional boxer and the father of Matt Murdock. A crime lord known as Roscoe Sweeney, aka the Fixer, used extortion to force Murdock to throw a fight. Murdock refused and Sweeney had him murdered. The death of Jack Murdock played a major role in inspiring his son to become the costumed superhero Daredevil.

- The character of Jack Murdock was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett.
- Jack Murdock died prior to the onset of the Modern age of heroes. As such, all of his appearances take place in flashback.
- A version of Jack Murdock appeared in the 2003 feature film Daredevil. He was played by actor David Keith and appeared in a flashback sequence. Though he only made a cameo appearance in the film, Jack Murdock's personality and history is close to that of his Marvel Universe counterpart. The only major difference between the two is that in the comics, Murdock was killed by Roscoe Sweeney. In the film, he was killed by the Kingpin.
- Jack Murdock was the spotlight character in the Daredevil: Battlin' Jack Murdock limited series in 2007.
- Jack Murdock used to train at Fogwell's Gym on the Lower West Side. This was later re-named Battling Jack's Gym in his honor.
