Biography[]

J.S. Hirsch was the chief of medicine at St. Martin's Hospital during the 1980s. Two of his attending nurses at the hospital were Alex Price and Susan Gallagher. In 1981, an American tourist named David Kessler was admitted to St. Martin's after suffering severe lacerations to the face and chest. It was believed that his injuries were caused by an escaped lunatic, but in fact, they were the result of a werewolf attack.

Doctor Hirsch remained troubled by the official report on David's case and took it upon himself to visit the Northern England hamlet of East Proctor where David was first attacked. The people inside the pub were the same as those who were there the night David's friend Jack Goodman was murdered. Kirsch tried to ask them questions about the night in question, but they remained very tight-lipped. One of the patrons tried to speak with Hirsch in private, but his friend warned him not to say anything. Hirsch left, convinced that the locals believed in the curse of the werewolf, and what was worse was the notion that David might have believed it too.

When he returned to St. Martin's, Hirsch told Alex a wild story about the villagers who seemed to suffer from a group neurosis concerning werewolves. He recommended telephoning the police, but Alex resisted the notion, preferring instead to find David and bring him in for further observation.

The next evening, six people were brutally murdered and Hirsch feared that David might have actually played out his werewolf fantasies. He contacted Nurse Price again and asked her to bring David in.

As it turned out, David never returned to St. Martin's. He truly was a werewolf and was gunned down the following evening at Piccadilly Circus. Doctor Hirsch and Nurse Price were both on duty at the hospital when the news of the werewolf attacks were first reported. [1]
