Biography[]
Ivy Pepper was the young red-haired daughter of Alice Pepper and Mario Pepper. She lived in an abusive household in a dilapidated apartment in Gotham City. Ivy's father was a known criminal, but the Pepper household was turned upside down when he was fingered as the primary suspect in the murder of Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne. This was all a set-up instigated by Fish Mooney. Mario tried to escape but was shot by Harvey Bullock who was defending James Gordon. Alice Pepper committed suicide a short time later. [7]
Ivy was deeply scarred emotionally by all of this. She lived on the streets for a while where she befriended Selina Kyle. Selina was very protective of Ivy, but also a little scared of her. Through Selina, Ivy also met Bruce Wayne - the son of the victims that her father had been accused of murdering. For a brief period of time, Ivy and Selina were squatting at the empty apartment of Barbara Kean. They left shortly after Barbara returned to Gotham.
Ivy was later found nosing around Fish Mooney's gang of criminal freaks. Accused of being a spy, she was targeted for execution by Fish's lieutenant, Marv. Marv grabbed and activated his death-touch, but Ivy managed to get away. While running, she fell into an open drainage pipe, which swept her out into the city reservoir. She awakened on the outskirts of the city, but found that she had instantly aged into an adult. [8]
