Isolation laboratories are special containment facilities that utilize strict quarantine procedures to scan and filter out infectious diseases and harmful radiation. They are sometimes referred to as Isolabs for short. Such facilities are commonly found at Centers for Disease Control.
In the pilot episode of the USA Network television series The 4400, the HomeSec adjunt known as the National Threat Assessment Command put together and emergency isolation quarantine to house 4,400 abductees from various time periods who had all simulataneously returned under inexplicable circumstances at the base of Mount Rainier. NTAC worked with the CDC for several months, studying the returnees, keeping them in isolation before determining whether they posed a threat to society at large. (4400: Pilot)
An IsoLab is also one of the secondary settings featured on the 1994-1998 television series Babylon 5. It is part of the Babylon 5 station's medical bay and serves a similar function as traditional isolation chambers. In the year 2258, Commander Jeffrey Sinclair placed a Soul Hunter into the IsoLab after the Minbari ambassador Delenn warned him that such creatures were extremely dangerous and would murder the entire station crew if left unchecked.
