"Sub-Mariner: Target for Death!" is the title to the fifty-fourth issue of the first Iron Man ongoing comic book series published by Marvel Comics. It was written by Mike Friedrich based on a story idea by Bill Everett. It was penciled by George Tuska and inked by Vince Colletta. Lettering was provided by Artie Simek. The story was edited by Roy Thomas. This issue shipped with a January, 1973 cover date and carries a cover price of .20 cents per copy.

- The tagline for this issue is "The Sub-Mariner Strikes!"
- Iron Man was created by writers Stan Lee & Larry Lieber and artist Don Heck. He first appeared in the first story presented in Tales of Suspense #39 in March, 1963 titled "Iron Man Is Born!".
- Namor, the Sub-Mariner was created by writer and artist Bill Everett.
- The Sub-Mariner has the distinction of being the very first comic book superhero of the Marvel Universe. He was introduced in Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1 in April, 1939 - six months prior to the release of Marvel Comics #1, which is generally considered the first appearance of the mainstream Marvel Universe.
- This is the first appearance of Madame MacEvil, whose real name is Heather Douglas. She will later change her code name to Moondragon.
- Bill Everett inked the Sub-Mariner head-shots in this issue. This was one of Everett's final contributions to the comic industry. Bill Everett passed away on February 27th, 1973.
- The computer on Madame MacEvil's ship that takes control of Iron Man's armor is later revealed to be I.S.A.A.C. - the super-computer intelligence based on the moon of Titan.
- Iron Man simultaneously appears "The Master Plan of the Space Phantom!" over in The Avengers #107.
- Namor simultaneously appears in his own mag in Sub-Mariner #57 in a story titled "...In the Lap of the Gods!"
