The Invasion is a 2007 science fiction film directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel. It is loosely based on the 1954 serial The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney which was originally published in Colliers Magazine. Previous takes on the concept were presented in the first adaptation of Finney's work, the 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers starring Kevin McCarthy. The film was remade in 1978 starring Donald Sutherland, also titled Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Though the central plot and most of the character concepts are similar from previous versions, The Invasion uses the idea of an extraterrestrial virus that alter's a person's physiology whereas the earlier films presented the "body snatcher" concept as a race of microscopic parasites.
