The image projector is a fictional item featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It is associated with the character of Iron Man and first appeared in Avengers #3 in January, 1964 in a story called "The Avengers Meet... Sub-Mariner!"
Description & History[]
The image projector was invented by Tony Stark during the early years of his career as Iron Man. Using ultra-frequency transistors, Tony Stark was able to project his own image to any destination he chose. Functionally, it was not different than a holographic emitter.
Stark tested the device by projecting the image of Iron Man from his family's manor to the Baxter Building, where he contacted Ben Grimm, the Thing. He tried getting help in locating the renegade Hulk, but Ben was on a date and couldn't be bothered.
Iron Man then projected his image into the laboratory of Reed Richards. Reed was in the midst of a heating experiment with Johnny Storm and could not stop to help. Reed's paramour, Susan Storm, was likewise uninterested.
Iron Man then projected his image to find Spider-Man, who was busy nabbing some criminals, and equally uninterested.
Running out of resources, Iron Man then sent his image all the way to Westchester County to the Danger Room training session of the X-Men at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Team leader, Professor Xavier told Iron Man he would alert him immediately if he learned anything about the Hulk, but then shooed him away so he could get back to his students.
