I.M. Foreman Junkyard is a fictional location featured in the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who. It first appeared in the inaugural episode of the show, "An Unearthly Child".

History[]

Presumably owned by someone named I.M. Foreman, this junkyard was located on 76 Totter's Lane in Shoreditch. It is here that the First Doctor first hid the TARDIS on Earth, disguising it as a police call box. Coal Hill School teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright followed their student, Susan Foreman, here and encountered the Doctor for the first time. Chesterton noted that the police call box was humming as if it were alive. Unaware of the older man's relationship to Susan and fearing for the child's safety, they pushed past him and entered the call box, discovering that it was significantly larger on the inside than it was on the outside. They were astounded by the sight of a strange instrument panel, until Susan explained to them that her grandfather and she were actually refugee aliens from the planet Gallifrey and the police call box was actually their time/space conveyance, called a TARDIS. Unwilling to compromise his identity and secrets, the Doctor felt it best to abduct Ian and Barbara inside the TARDIS whereupon they became his new companions. [1]
