Houston is the fourth-largest city in the United States of America and the largest city in the state of Texas. Houston is the seat of Harris County and the economic center of the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area—the sixth-largest metropolitan area in the U.S. with a population of approximately 5.9 million.
Houston hosts ApolloCon, an annual science fiction convention hosted by the Houston Science Fiction Association (HSFA), a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation. ApolloCon offers information and entertainment for fans of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and other genres of speculative and imaginative fiction in all their forms, including literary, media, and interactive gaming.
Houston is also the birth place of actor Brent Spiner, who went on to become an icon of the science fiction genre for his portrayal of the robotic Starfleet officer Lieutenant Commander Data.
The 1992 sci-fi/action film RoboCop 2 was primarily filmed in Houston. Scenes were shot at the Budweiser Brewery on Interstate 10 at the East Loop, Post Oak Boulevard, Fourth Ward, Jefferson Davis Hospital and Lyons Avenue, Fifth Ward. Night scenes were filmed at the Wortham Center and the game room scene was shot at 2115 Runnels Street. [1]
