House on Haunted Hill is an American feature film of the demonic/ghost & haunted house subgenres of horror. It is a remake of the 1959 William Castle classic of the same name. The movie was directed by William Malone with a script written by Dick Beebe based on a story by Robb White. It was produced by Dark Castle Entertainment and distributed theatrically through Warner Bros., premiering in the United States on October 29th, 1999. The film stars Geoffrey Rush as amusement park mogul Stephen Price and Famke Janssen as his wife Evelyn Price. As part of a birthday party celebration, Stephen hosts a party at the abandoned Vannacutt Psychiatric Institute for the Criminally Insane and promises to reward his guests one million dollars each for anyone who can stay in the supposed "haunted hospital" until morning.
