A Houngan is a title attributed to a practitioner of the voodoo tradition. A Houngan serves in the capacity of priest, scholar and group leader. In fiction, Houngan officiate voodoo ceremonies, which may include animal sacrifices, offerings to the Gods or saints, and other religious observances.
The DC Comics super-villain, Jean-Louis Droo, operates under the code name of Houngan. He is a member of the Brotherhood of Evil and uses techno-magic to simulate voodoo practices. In Marvel Comics, Samuel Barone is a voodoo houngan who has fought the Avengers under the code name of Black Talon.
