The Holy Bible is the good book. It is the bound articles of faith of the Judeo-Christian religion and chronicles the spiritual journey and history of the followers of that faith beginning with the dawn of creation up until the foretelling of the end of the world. It's that last bit that seems to pop up in the horror genre more than any other.
Priests use this as a powerful tool in their ongoing war against evil. Quoting scripture from the Bible has been known to be useful when exorcising demons from possessed children. It has also been used to dispel the presence of other evil entities such as ghosts and sometimes even vampires. The power of Jesus Christ literally compels them to leave. Don't believe me? Ask Lankaster Merrin. He quoted this stuff all the time while trying to get that wily booger Pazuzu to leave Regan MacNeil's head-twisting little body.
On The Walking Dead, Hershel Greene was a devout Christian and often quoted the Bible. He even found one during his stay at the West Georgia Correctional Facility and quoted lines from it to Merle Dixon, who likewise appeared to be well-versed in scripture (who knew that a hillbilly racist like Merle Dixon would know Bible quotes?). Later, the group met an emotionally crippled priest named Father Gabriel Stokes. Stokes eventually lost his faith and burned his Bible. It happens.
