Hollywood is a district in Los Angeles, situated west-northwest of Downtown Los Angeles. Due to its fame and cultural identity as the historical center of movie studios and movie stars, the word "Hollywood" is often used as a metonymy of American cinema. The nickname Tinseltown refers to the glittering, superficial nature of Hollywood and the movie industry. Today, much of the movie industry has dispersed into surrounding areas such as the Westside neighborhood, but significant auxiliary industries, such as editing, effects, props, post-production and lighting companies, remain in Hollywood, as does the backlot of Paramount Pictures.
Points of Interest[]
- Plummer Park
- Plummer Park is a public park located in West Hollywood. On the TV series Angel, Charles Gunn and Fred Burkle were staking out an area of the park while investigating an alleged philanderer named Jerry. They used the time to their advantage and began making out. They had to stop however, when their target went missing, only to learn that he had been abducted by a life-leeching tree demon. (Angel: Couplet)
- Sunset Boulevard
- Sunset Boulevard is a boulevard in the central and western part of Los Angeles, California, that stretches from the Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades east to Figueroa Street in Downtown Los Angeles. It is a major thoroughfare in the cities of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood (including a portion known as the Sunset Strip), as well as several districts in Los Angeles.
