The Hobgoblin's battle van is a fictional vehicle featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It is associated with the Spider-Man line of titles.
History[]
Norman Osborn designed his battle van during his years as the Green Goblin. A veritable fortress on wheels, it was heavily armored and maintained an average cruising speed of ninety miles an hour. The structural integrity of the vehicle was such that a driver could easily plow through a small structure without damage. The windshield was constructed from a special reinforced jet age plastic that could withstand at least six blows from someone like Spider-Man before eventually buckling. The van had an auto-guidance system, and the roof housed a rotating gun turret.
Years after the Green Goblin was believed to have been killed, a successor named the Hobgoblin came into possession of the van, as well as Norman Osborn's journals. The Hobgoblin engaged with Spider-Man in a high-speed chase. While Spider-Man clung to the underside of the vehicle, the Hobgoblin rammed it through a bar, likely killing several patrons. Spider-Man managed to get on top of the vehicle and pry open the gun turret so he could face the Hobgoblin inside. During the fight, the vehicle's auto-guidance system took it up 43rd street and plunged it off Pier 83, crashing it into the Hudson River. Water rushed into the aperture that Spider-Man had made, short-circuiting the van's control console. Doing so activated a self-destruct sequence. The Hobgoblin fired his finger lasers at Spider-Man, which caused the vehicle to explode. Hobgoblin was seemingly killed in the explosion, but
